Getting off the Wood Duck patterns...now on to mallard flank wings..

It's an oldie, and rare in dry fly form---usually tied and fished as a wet. I'll bet not many have it in their fly boxes. And I'll bet you'll not find one in the bins in Catskill shops, either.

Mike, another gem... :D

But I have a question... do you palmer the hackle or wrap the mylar/tinsel first... looks like you did the hackle, then the mylar - :?: ....

And, does it matter? :?: :?:

Ed

In this case, the tinsel went first----

But I've done it a couple of ways: Hackle behind behind tinsel---Hackle in front tinsel---tinsel first--or hackle first---

Depends on mood ;)

Mike - the reason I asked, I would think it much easier to wrap the tinsel, than palmer the hackle... but I could not see any places where the hackle stem crossed over the tinsel... very well done, as usual...

Thanks...

Beauty Mike. Did you strip one side of the body hackle before winding it? Looks very tamed...and sparse. Very clean and neat again, you are so meticulous in the construction. CJ

John--

Yes, On dry flies I strip half the barbs off the palmer (that would be the left side if the hackle tip is pointing away from you, convex side up). On wets, I fold hackle if palmered--(usually)
