Re: On the Dumbing Down of Fly Fishing....
Eric - yeah you're right I guess. I get a little knee-jerk about this sometimes. I don't believe the entry into the sport should be an issue. Those who catch the bug from one of these "just toss it over the side" guide trips will pursue other aspects of fly fishing - including the history and tradit...

Re: Sad News - Mark Libertone Passed Away Today
Very sad news. I got to know Mark just a little bit through email when we worked on a GFF article on wingless wets - he was so generous and humble. What a wonderful man. May he be in peace now.

Re: On the Dumbing Down of Fly Fishing....
I remember when the demarcation line was "The Movie" (ARRTI)- If you were pre movie - you were grandfathered in - but if you were post you were automatically under suspicion as just another catalog dressed newbie who wanted to be Brad Pitt and look cool. It seems that there is always one group looki...

Re: My hat stinks
I have no qualms about washing my hats. Being a little sparse on the top (a *little* sparse? bwahahahaha), hats are as important as tippet material. I have a lot of them, but there are a few favorites that are reserved for fishing. When they get rank, I toss them in the washer with other clothes and...

Re: Pool names --- Esopus Creek
Hi Bob... you're the second person to ask... I gave my last "extra" copy to Mike Valla when he was gathering info for the EFF Esopus Creek article... the one pictured above is an original printing... there was a second printing with a green cover that I have made corrections to over the years... so...

Re: Tellico Nymph
I like this one a lot, too. I tied mine with a black wire rib in place of the herl, which is more durable but less traditional (but just as effective). Boy these have been good for me over the years. My friend Gary showed me this fly years and years ago on a little stream in central NY. I've had sev...

Re: Trout stream ethics
This past Saturday I had two very different experiences within an hour. I was fishing a popular spot on the Willow - upstreams aways from the prime part of the pool and off by myself. Downstream were a couple guys who were together - fishing a comfortable distance apart but close enough they could t...

Re: A cabinet for your reels
Damn, that is nice!! Wow. Must be cool to just walk into the shop and build a piece like that out of leftover scraps. Sheesh. You make it look easy - which only goes to show how much work is behind it over the years. Way cool. Thank you for sharing!!!

Re: AARON HIRSCHHORN
Damn. Godspeed, Aaron. May you rest in peace. Others have used the word "gentleman". I think that about sums it up - a quality all to rare in today's world. He was a gentleman, and it was my pleasure to know him just a little bit. He always made me feel welcome no matter where our paths crossed. A s...
