I've found that if see the beavers first, just talking to them in a non-threatening voice will prevent tail slaps. It lets them know that you're aware of their presence and that they don't need to announce themselves.
I am definitely going to try that the next time I encounter them.

Re: Angry Beavers on the Esopus

They are very territorial and there is nothing you can do about it. They did that to me on the Neversink and came closer after each slap. I thought the slaps put a particular large trout down so I called it a night.

Re: Genesee New York State Fishing Contest

That's a long hike into the head of the Neversink Reservoir. The Big Bend Club is upriver from the mouth. Such a treasure full of history. Great info Ed.

Elsie Darbee Long Tailed March Brown Nymph

Could someone give me some suggestions? I have 4 Long tailed march Brown Nymphs tied by Elsie Darbee. I don't know how I can authenticate them in order to shadow box them as Elsie Darbee flies.

Re: New regulations in region 3

I am going to hard copy a letter to Fred Henson. To me emails just don't have the same impact. Anyway I am going to voice my opposition from another angle... that during the spawning season, the trout are concentrated up and more prone to predator attacks such as birds of prey, Otters , Herons etc.,...

Re: RIP Nelson Bryant

Nelson was a friend. I fished with him at the Vineyard and shared some meals at his table. Over 35 years we corresponded about fly fishing and grouse hunting. His knowledge and advice was rich. He was a combat Veteran who was shot through the chest by a German soldier and was able to go through reha...
