Re: Bodkins

Question, what did you use as needles? There are two sizes: a standard bodkin needle (the two on the bottom), and a rather finer one (the two on top). The bodkin needles I bought on eBay a couple of years ago--they are the same as the standard brass bodkins made in Pakistan. The finer needles came ...

Bodkins

I had this old cane travel rod lying around--ferrules were all gone to crap--so made a bunch of bodkins out of it. Great fun. A lot mrore than I need, lol--Christmas presents next December, I guess. Re: Free style Catskill dry & emerger

Beautiful ties, Jay--love the body on your dry.

But perplexed about the peccary. I use it on my Coffin flies because of....Dette tradition, lol. But find it very stiff--impractical even--but not sure about options? Moose soaks up too much water....

Re: Hook Porn

A new addition to the streamer-hook archive: Mustad 3907C in size 5. The C hooks are the heaviest of the three (3907A, 3907B, and 3907C), and the size 5 is rather unusual--these are the first I have seen. And they were beautifully packed. (I have since used a bunch of them ont he Carrie Stevens proj...

Re: Carrie Stevens, the hard way (long winded)

Absolutely beautiful work, Joseph!! I for one cannot wait to see the finished product(s) Well, finally, here are the "finished products." I thought this project might take me six months. It ended up taking a year. It was slow in part because tying a Carrie Steven streamer is inherently slow--it req...

Re: Capra hair

I was just thinking the same thing Narco was thinking: hit up a goat farmer. Whenever I need something like Tup's wool, it's the farmers who have come through. https://www.marblecreekacres.com/product/27264/goat-pelt--white-wblue-dorsal-stripe Must be a lot of old goats out there and one hide can ti...

Re: Capra hair

Gibbs striper fly? Like this one (picked off the internet)? https://i.postimg.cc/Pxh7SxSc/Screen-Shot-2021-03-03-at-12-19-06-PM.png 3" is long goat. This thread describes how the original goat was changed to bucktail, and this would maybe explain the length.stiffness/waviness that we see in this par...

Re: Capra hair

Ted, what exactly are you tying--and how long is the hair you are looking for? It's hard to find vintage goat--and the hair of it isn't that long, maybe one inch? One and a half? Here's some from Art Dedini's shop, probably in the 1960s-- https://i.postimg.cc/Xvw6Dh9D/Dedini-Goat-e-copy.jpg The cont...
