Re: Antrim Streamside

Mike, is this the place where Andrea and Shawn had the Guest House until the fire that burned the main house down?

Re: Joe Fox's Wax Formula for Tying Thread

Boy, this post brings back a memory. In the early 70's I stopped in to Walt's place and as usual I pestered him with questions. I asked him what he used for wax and he said he mixed up his own stuff. I of course asked what was in it and he smiled and as he rolled a cigarette in one hand like the old...

Re: Tribs starting to light up

When wet wading in very cold water there is a natural and involuntary "back up" point. It is somewhere between the hips and mid thigh. When you reach that depth there is a quick inhalation and an involuntary step back ward. Then you have to explain "shrinkage" to your wife or girl friend.

Re: Ground water vs stream levels

Catskill John's brother confirms my observation that in the long run it doesn't matter what the snow pack looks like in the spring. It has to rain once a week through the season to keep the streams in good shape. No rain equals low stream flows in the Catskills. (Except for the tail waters, which ar...

Re: Free signed and personlized book: trivia!

I'll break out the Well Tempered Angler as soon as I get home and re read that passage. I really did roll around and did the head-feet-head-feet tumble for a long way downstream that day. Bouncing off rocks as I went. I simply could not get my feet under me. At first I felt silly, then I got scared....

Re: Free signed and personlized book: trivia!

Congratulations Ed. Mikes book is a really great book. But you know that if you already have one. I don't know how I could have missed that this was the Big Bend pool on the Esopus. One very early, very cold April day in the early 1970's I slipped on some ice there and fell head over heels into the ...

My guess is: Beaverkill River, Ferdon's Pool. Alfred Miller aka "Sparse Grey Hackle" Fishless days, Angling Nights. What else could it be on this forum?

Re: Rotary vises, plus

Like Eric, I have been tying for over a half century, It's hard to believe I can say that. I also used the venerable Thompson model A until about 15 years ago. I switched to the Dyna king because it had the rotary motion. Now I can roll the vise over and inspect and trim the entire fly without remov...

Re: New Vise

I have never owned a Regal vise so i can't comment on them. I can contrast my experience of Brown Bears with service though. I got one of the early Dyna King vises. I forget the model name it was called, but it is a step down from the Professional. After manufacturing it for a few years Dyna King im...

Re: Getting ready...

Come on boys, suck it up. We have over 500 inches of snow so far here. Jackson schools took a snow day a few weeks ago for the first time in 20 years. That little snow blower looks like it should have training wheels. I would post a smily face but I don't know how.
