Re: Joe's smelt

Nope. Sorry no pintail. I called my buddy and he swears we used mallard. So I retract my criticism of the fly. I was fishing a cheep imitation. No wonder they didn't work, :D

Re: Joe's smelt

A famous Maine fly that this Mainer has never caught a fish on either. Quit tying them years ago. I might have some pintail. Lemme look.

Mine is bent, dirty, glued, full of bits of fur and feathers, and autographed. Fantastic reference. Buy it! :)

Re: Thunder Creek Bucktails

These are a bit more traditional. mostly painted eyes and on a proper hook. Mustad 36620. Leiser gives detailed instructions in the Book of Fly Patterns. One of my favorites.

Re: Okay... not exactly flyfishing...

Nice fish but not enough ice there for me. I like my ice 2 feet thick.

Re: Klinks

I cheat on these flies. Rather than whip finish on the post I put a little line of gel type super glue on the post and just wind the hackle down. Hold for a second while the super glue dries and then trim off the waste. Never had one fail.
