Re: SGM/Shannons Fest Sunday 23rd

Thanks for sharing all the picks. Kinda makes me home sick for my old stomping grounds. What a great event.

Re: Pleasanton, California Fly Show: Report

The Northern California expo trip is wacked. Perhaps there is so much whoring and pimping going on because the outfitter/package guys can smell the money oozing out of the bay area and Santa Clara county, you know Apple, Google.......... They want a piece of that action. It's sad because it is a tur...

Re: Pleasanton, California Fly Show: Report

Shops have tried. The material thing is kinda weird. It's was that way when I would go, only a few shops with some stuff. Most would go home with what they came with.Perhaps times have changed.

Re: New waders/boots

Dan Bailey's waders are really good. Their Light Weight waders are $200.00 and last a long time. They are made with a proprietary material that is different than other companies. Patagonia waders are very good also. Not a big fan of Simms. My Simms waders sprung a leak in less than 100 fishing days ...

Re: UV Materials and if they really help ?

Hi John,
The only way of you catching a big Henry's trout is you have to be here
Oddly enough most of the effective wingless wet and flymph patterns are made with naturally UV reflective materials :)
Talk to you soon,
Jim

Re: UV Materials and if they really help ?

Maybe the naturals only had 2 tails and your fly had 3 tails. I remember someone told me since the trout can see a size #28 fly they can tell how many tails are on the fly too. :) Glad you brought that up John. Through the UV lens detail is much more pronounced. While I'm not sure that trout can co...

Re: UV Materials and if they really help ?

In regard to UV reflection, light does not "glow" , it reflects light as in a mirror . It has nothing to do with florescence. The amount of available will light reflect the same in in two different objects given that they have the same reflection value. UV reflection is just that, reflecting ( mirro...

Re: UV Materials and if they really help ?

Hi BrownBear, Excellent point! :D 8-) At this stage in the game it's a crap shoot all the way around. We can only go by trial and error at this point. We do have Reed's photos and can use them as some sort of base point. If we knew the relative UV reflectivity of the "UV"material we are using we can...

Re: UV Materials and if they really help ?

This is a subject that has interested me for many years now. I had got interested in this when Reed first started posting about this subject 10 years ago or so. There definitely was a correlation between UV reflective material and catch rate, for me at least. What appears to be greatly misunderstood...

Re: Researching Stimulator History

Hi Mike, To be honest the Stimulator really wasn't influenced by the Trude or the Sofa Pillow per se, as I only had vague knowledge of those flies at the time of the Stimulators inception. The real influence on the flies design was a live giant eastern stonefly that I had captured that the fish were...
