Re: Holding trout by the gill covers

I don't mean to be judgemental but why would you do that? Unhook the fish in the water and let him go if you are releasing it. Simple as that.

Re: An Antrim Lodge story

Another Antrim Lodge story … I made my first Catskills trip as a 15 YO back in 1978 with a group of guys from a local TU Chapter. My non fishing dad gave the green light after meeting the folks who would be taking me. I travelled with a great fellow by the name of Mac McKenna; now living in northern...

Re: Trashing the Catskills

Tailwater - so do we just give up? Or do we make enough noise to bring some attention to the matter? I've fished the river for 39 yrs now so I know what it was like BC (Before Canoes). When the canoes came along it was a minor annoyance in retrospect. Now? I don't think that "go up river or go down ...

Re: Trashing the Catskills

Regarding the Battenkill floating issues ... I'd say that you could find any number of offenses that could be cited in some manner on any given weekend. Underage drinking, post float DUI, trespassing, littering to name a few right off the top of my head. Was it last year that a fight broke out at th...

Re: Dorato Hare's Ear

Just to throw another fly in the ointment so to speak I pulled out my copy of Dick Talluer's Adult Guide to Fly Fishing. He really liked this fly and the pattern he describes includes clipping the hackles on the bottom to allow the fly to skate more effectively. It's really sort of a "messy" fly but...

Re: Dud and his Flats

One could fill out a pretty handy fly box with some of the flies emanating from the vices of anglers associated with the Battenkill.

Thanks for the tying instructions on the "flats" flies. Something to work on up at camp!

Re: Attention Atherton fans....

When I first started fishing the Battenkill in the late 70's I vividly recall meeting and chatting with an "old lady" and wondering who the heck she was. It wasn't until a number of years later and I was digging into the history of the river that I learned of Atherton and his wife Maxine and I immed...

Hendrickson wrap up

Well, with the Hendricksons now a memory I thought I would share my observations and wonder what others saw / experienced. As previously reported here I made several visits to a central Mass stream throughout April in the hopes of coming across the hatch. The river in question typically sees the hat...

Re: Bug Alert

Seen on the Vt side of the Battenkill yesterday: Early in the morning grannom caddis and a moderate spinner fall of Hendricksons (8:30 to 10). Starting about 11 Hendrickson, paralep and invaria (!) duns began to hatch and they dribbled off over the course of the day / evening. A moderate Hendrickson...
