Re: Black body and hackle , mallard flank wing

No tail,no tag.
Wing tied in a bunch, like a sparse hair wing , not folded or rolled

Black body and hackle , mallard flank wing

Can anyone tell me the name of this fly?

Black thread or floss body
Gold or silver tinsel or wire rib
Mallard flank wing
Black hackle .

Like a luzerne,except black with a rib.

It has been productive for me, but, I don’t even know what it is .

Re: Seven and a half footer recommendation please...

Bushwhacking into hemlock with a 7 1/2 footer?

Many people are happy with a $30 yellow glass eagle claw for this, not joking !

Re: A winter topic...

i generally tye my own,or use flies my wife tyes.

however,i do buy her flies that she uses as models. especially if i go to far away fly shops.

also,i do tye some bass poppers, but those cheap ones just make sense to buy rather than tye.

other than that, and collecting,i use my own.

Re: Favorite feathers

St.Froid,I hate to be that guy, but, blue jay and woodpecker might be illegal feathers, regardless of origin.
Whether we harvest it ourselves,or it’s roadkill doesn’t matter in many cases.

Just saying to be careful.
