Last of Oct/First of Nov

I'm off the week that ends Oct and begins Nov. I'm contemplating an overnight(s) mid-week trip to the Catskills as I've never fished there in the Autumn before - mainly due to the limited number of streams/stream sections remaining open in NY after Oct 15th. It appears that most watersheds are close...

Re: Vehicle set up for Fishing/Tying

I've been hunting, fishing, biking, hiking and camping out of a Wrangler for a good while now. First a 2 door (actually had two 2 doors at the same time of different models) and most recently a 4 door. I can't think of a better sporting vehicle. I can go anywhere I want to and carry everything I nee...

Re: UTC Wee Wool

It works okay, nothing special. I use it on soft hackle flies that are supposed to represent a caddis. The wool gives a nice segmented look that is quicker to tie with than using dubbing. All that said, when the supply I have runs out, I don't think I will replace it. I got a bunch on sale about 10-...

Re: Let it Snow Let it Snow Let it Snow

Well..this happens just about every year so I think it is a pretty normal thing. Each time it happens, everyone says it is out of the norm, but it happens every year. I'll let you do the math.

Re: Let it Snow Let it Snow Let it Snow

So many people grumbling about a snow storm in winter in a region of the world that should expect to get snow in winter just amazes me. That's all I see on the news. I don't know when winter weather during winter became news. At this rate, I fully expect the weather channel to start naming 72 degree...

Re: Winter dry flies

I really enjoy winter fishing, but don't get the opportunity to do it often due to my requirement to be above freezing and having a full time job limits my daylight hours available to weekends. As for dry flies in winter, that doesn't happen often in my area. When it does, it is either a BWO or dark...

Re: 'Innovative' Tying Techniques

Well, I created a totally new fly the other day that I call the SUPER GONZO HELL YEAH WILD ADVENTURE LOOK AT ME NYMPH. I used a lighter shade of brown pheasant tail to tie some PT nymphs and made the tail a quarter millimeter longer than the standard dressing would call for. I also used one extra ta...

Re: Purge-avoiding introduction

Welcome.

I think you found much better trout waters than you had as a kid. Although a great day of trout fishing can be had in the finger lake region, they're few and far between.

Re: So who…

The streams that I can actually get to have all been frozen over for a few months now and my closest sure bet for unfrozen water, Spring Creek, gets so crowded that I would rather not fish than deal with all of the people trampsing around in places they should be fishing or that I am trying to fish....

Re: Then and now

I came across a stash of old indian necks several years ago (maybe 10) that a friend received in a lot he purchased at an auction for a few rare books. He was going to pitch them, so I took them home with me. I didn't have a use for them, so I vacuum sealed them each individually to both preserve th...
