Re: Aging flyfishers – what gives first

Interesting topic. I just retired a month ago at age 65. Had a quad by-pass 8 years ago, and a couple of Carotid Roto-Rooter jobs since then. Have always been active annoying Brookies on small streams by myself. But within the past 2 years, I've noticed I'm having a harder time walking on uneven gro...

Re: Zap-a-gap

I also am a Loctite man. Don't like most applicators, so I use a round toothpik. I also smear a thin coat of Vasoline on the cap threads - keeps the cap from gluing itself to the bottle/container.

I could get along just fine with only ants, paracute Hare's Ear, Parachute Adams, and the Hare's Ear Soft Hackle.

Re: Foam and synthetics

As for the general arguement against using foam and synthetics, "back in the day", tiers used what materials were available, which of course were a lot of furs/hair/feathers. If they would have had synthetics/foam/etc. at their disposal, I'm sure they would have used them to good advantage. I tie mo...

Re: Zip locks

I use zip-locs for all of the above. Cell phones bring to mind a story. I was fishing alone for a week in Northern Michigan, annoying lots of Brookies. As I was walking back down a two-track to my truck, I heard my cell phone ringing in my jacket. I take it for travel, but always leave it in the tru...

Re: While fishing, whose ever been...

I think it was Daniel Boone (or was it Davey Crockett?) that said - "I've never been lost, but I was confused for 3 days once." I don't think I've ever been LOST, but then I fish a lot of small streams in the PM State Forest alone, and do get turned around on a new stream once in a while. I did have...

Re: Stewart Black Spider

Probably my favorite fly! And a real producer. Show it to any non-tyer, and you'll get "wow, that's an ugly fly".
Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. :D

Re: Colonoscopy

L O L Great story, now I'm REALLY looking forward to it! I paid big money for a proceedure several years ago that insured that we would have no more children, if you get my drift. As I was sitting on a cold bench in the hallway, cutting quite a figure in my hosptal gown, I must have had a worried ex...

Just saw on another forum that Dick Talleur passed away last night. One of fly tying's true good guys.
