I believe it's the dark core on the Conover that makes it so effective; looks very realistic and "buggy" to me - so, as they say, it is an easy fly to "fish with confidence" - one of the best.

Beautiful flies.... The tinsel body dries are still very popular in the UK, and the variants of Baigent seemed to boost the popularity many years ago overseas...... Jack Atherton's variants are mostly tinsel bodied, too, as you guys probably reca. A little more obscure in the US are the dry fly patt...
