Seeking help with fishing camp mouse problem.

Here's a question for someone with extensive amateur or professional pest control experience. My fishing camp is a travel trailer which I keep year-around at a campground in the Catskills. I have n unusual mouse problem that I can't figure out and hope to get some information from this post. The mic...

Re: Fish taking flies while nymphing

You didn't indicate what size tippet you are using but I suggest 4-X which has an average rated breaking strength of 7 pounds. I use 4-X for almost all of my nymphing and doubt you'll have any break-offs with the average size Esopus trout. Also, only use the strongest knots, be careful tying them an...

Re: Possible to restore reel finish??

Thanks for all the great suggestions. With all the rain and high water we've been having I had some spare fishing time to give the problem more thought. Just for the hell of it I decided to use coarse steel-wool on the corrosion. I figured I had nothing to lose, and damn if it didn't make the reel l...

Re: Hi-Viz winging material availability?

I was turned onto DNA Frosty Fish Fiber from Henry Ramsey's book Matching Major Eastern Hatches. Like i wrote previously, there's nothing indicating the white is fluoroe3scent. Besides that, I tie a unique Trico that the other materials are much better suited for. We'll leave it at that.

Re: Hi-Viz winging material availability?

I fish a lot of foam lines and the brightness of the fluorescent white makes it easier to see and track the fly among the specks of white foam. This is especially true of flies in smaller sizes like Tricos and especially true in the lower light of early morning. My eyes are probably not as good as y...

Re: Leader breakage next to knot??

Diameter is very important to me as the finer the leader the more natural the drift in micro-currents. Using a leader that is larger in diameter (stiffer) than necessary defeats the purpose. This reminds me of the Drennen brand of leader material that steelheaders were raving about in years past; it...

Re: Leader breakage next to knot??

That Cortland copolymer leader material has my interest. Usually, when leader material is listed with much higher breaking strengths than other brands its diameter is a bit oversize. 6-X is rated at 4.2 lbs; 5-X is 6 lbs; 4-X is 8.4 lbs! Does anyone know if this stuff is a TRUE 4-X, 5-X or 6-X?

Looked into Frosty Fish Fiber. Nothing to indicate the white is fluorescent.

Re: Hi-Viz winging material availability?

Thanks for the suggestion but I find Antron isn't stiff enough to make good spinner wings plus it holds water matting the fibers together making it difficult to keep flies afloat. A coarser, translucent bunch of fibers is needed. Incidentally, the late Dennis skarka once told me he likewise stopped ...

Hi-Viz winging material availability?

I'm running out of fluorescent white Hi-Viz winging material and from what I can surmise, its no longer made. Nobody, including Joe Fox has it on their web sites and a search of stores came up with a blank. I found some white Hi-Viz on Ebay but there's no indication it is fluorescent. My package is ...
