Re: Small Water Brook Trout Fishing This Morning

Wow. That is one of the most interesting brookie photos I have seen in some time... Really highlights the vermiculate mazes, the brilliant blood-red spots and the white fin edges. Thank you for posting! -Rob J. Hey Rob - Thanks for your response - As I see your comment and as sit here and look at th...

Small Water Brook Trout Fishing This Morning

Just a bit of sun alternating with more rain and thunder rumbling in the disatance seemed like good conditions to hit Brookie water this morning. Got rid of the vest and put some tippet, one fly box and forceps and clippers in my rain slicker and headed up. Good fun. To avoid spooking the fish, I ha...

Re: Holding trout by the gill covers

The issues brought up in this thread are why I recently finally started using a net. I've found it's especially helpful for Brookies and other smaller trout that are often frantic and flop around on rocks that could injure them as well. I'm also wondering about barbless hooks vs hooks with the barb ...

Re: Do I dare fish the Esopus???

Laminarman - Here's an I phone shot of the Esopus I took as I stumbled back to the Jeep tonight - The worst that will probably happen, is your that you might get annoyed with small rainbows chewing up your flies. There are are larger ones as well- Here and there.

Re: Do I dare fish the Esopus???

You should give a go sometime. Having said that, for openers, it might be better if it was a situation of convenience, rather than a special trip. You would definitely want to check a stream report for water clarity and flow rate. It all really depends on the nature of the release at the portal. It ...

Re: The best trout I ever caught

Great Yarn ! Thanks for sharing - Sometimes fish turn up in the most surprising places. A couple of seasons ago, a woman up the street bagged a huge Brookie in a Schoharie Creek trib. You would never dream of a huge Brookie there.

Re: Vehicle set up for Fishing/Tying

I recently made a a big mistake and got a Jeep Liberty from the in laws ( always a bad idea) for work and fishing and can't seem to keep it on the road for for an appreciable amount of time without having to put it back in the shop. Yikes ! Driving me nuts. Certainly not comfortable driving it some ...

Re: Traffic light on the West Branch

I ve run into a few jerks, but most of the guides I've encountered on the Delaware system practice reasonable stream ettiquette. Some day's there's just too many people every where - guides with sports, boaters of all types as well as fishermen. The Esopus can be just as bad in it's own way. The tub...
