Re: looking for a specific hook

Ted--

Steelhead hooks? Will any of these do? I think the size 2s are the biggest I have but I can look around.

Re: Eric Leiser

Very sad indeed--. I love Eric's Dette book--it's unpretentious, straightforward, and especially revealing--and turns otherwise ephemeral oral history into something very lasting. When I first read Ed's post I went straight for my archive, as I have a single Leiser wet fly--but could only find the p...

Re: Dubbing wax

The thread is waxed, yes, but the dubbing surrounds the thread which if it gets saturated it still will sink. Assuming you used no floatant? Depending on the dubbing as well? The point of the argument though is about the thread being waxed or not, and what effect this has on thread, not the dubbing-...

IMO there is such a small amount of wax used it should have no benefit in floating a fly.
I dunno. If the waxed thread becomes more hydrophobic and resistant to absorbing water, wouldn't that help the fly float?

Re: Hook Porn

This thread needs some attention--it seems like everyone's over on the Flymph Forum these days.....I'll get there ....eventually.... So--instead of a lot of hooks, or even (in Dana's case) a lot of a lot of hooks, I am going to talk about one hook: A Partridge L2A: https://i.postimg.cc/ZndpdS52/L2A-...

Re: Dubbing wax

I think it depends what you are dubbing? For me anyhow... For most applications I prefer Overton's. Both old and new versions--. There's a thread somewhere here where I offered some thoughts on their relative stickiness. I've used Wapsi too--but saw no reason to change. I like the mystique of Overto...

Re: The Carrie Stevens Archive

Thanks for your words of care and support--it's much appreciated. The Chicago police department sent three members of their theft/robbery team to investigate and take back CCTV recordings for review--and a detective was assigned to oversee the case. It was a bit sad though--. After reviewing the dat...

Re: The Carrie Stevens Archive

I don’t no why these companies just leave the packages on the porches. Or in condo lobbies...... The reason, as far as I can tell, is because our delivery people--USPS, Fed Ex, UPS, and DHL--are overworked, and saddled with unrealistic expectations for making deliveries. At least here in Chicago. S...

Re: The Carrie Stevens Archive

Thanks, guys, for your caring words--much appreciated. A colleague with friends in the police department managed to initiate an investigation--so hopefully something will be uncovered in the process. It's hard to imagine what might survive, and where it might be, but I'm holding faint hopes--even if...

The Carrie Stevens Archive

As some of you know, I have been working for several years on creating an archive related to the work of Carrie Stevens--done in a way that is faithful to historical considerations, yet is presented as a contemporary art project. I outlined some steps of the project in another thread here on SGM: so...
