Re: looking for good photo(s)

I believe the key phrase here is "spawning colors". Male BND acquire a reddish tint in spawning season. I have pics of both female and male in spawning colors---but have to locate the memory card. Or maybe on an external hard drive? But, as suggested, just go and get a $15 minnow trap, bait it and ...

Re: looking for good photo(s)

Ted, I shot dozens of photos of Baitfish, including the black nose dace, for the "bucktails" book. I just have to find the photos. I might have a different version of this guy, one on a different background. -If I can't locate the photos, just go down to Walmart and purchase a $15 minnow trap. Stick...

Re: Ray smith ring of wets

Teddy, I believe I have a photo of the set that Terry Finger (Ray Smith student) sent to me when I was crafting the Catskill dry flies tying book way back. But it's on one of several CDs Terry sent to me just before he died. Only problem is I don't know which of the CDs has the photo. And my new com...

You got that right. When I was there a few years ago--never saw so many plaid shirts, beards, and boots. Enjoyed tying there---a rare occasion that I tied ...

Re: So Mr. Valla, let's talk BEATING THE HEAT

RE-RUN Thread: Beating the heat in summer It's gonna be a roaster this weekend in upstate NY. --hitting near 100F--humid. > Here's an old thread re-run, going back to 2012 , when we discussed my "heirloom" cold water, spring fed streams I hit in summer. As I mentioned in the story---I look for geolo...

Re: What’s up with the Esopus?

St Froid, Because I live in the Catskills with limited time and resources for travel, heritage water is pretty much all I know. I don't know the Salmon River, but it's certainly on my bucket list. I get the impression that for the most part, it's a fall and winter proposition ? Anything happening t...

Re: What’s up with the Esopus?

As Epeorus mentioned in his post above, I had a great day on the Esopus last week. My time was limited so the strategy was to plant myself in primarily one good stretch, and stay there casting for the majority of my 3+ hours. That put me on the lower river. It's been several years since I wrote an E...
