Re: New rod and dry flies

I understand that PHY wasn't exactly happy that Gingrich wrote about using the Midge for salmon. I knew Arnold fairly well, and he enjoyed expressing his opinion, and didn't really give a rat's patoot whether anyone agreed with him. He also felt that once he bought something, it was his decision ho...

Re: New rod and dry flies

Happy Thanksgiving Joe. Yes that is Tim Zietak's Signature. It's a fun rod. Much more versatile than some people may think for a 6'3" rod. If you haven't read Arnold Gingrich's The Well-Tempered Angler , you should. He makes the original Paul Young Midge seem like a magic wand. He made me into a "f...

Me too. I've often said if God had made a trout stream to use as a model for all others, he'd have made the Beaverkill. And I still eel that way even tho I haven't set foot in those lovely waters in about 25 years.

Re: Chadwicks...

Here's a thread on Chadwicks from another board that has been going on for a year and a half. I suspect it has just about every possible question and answer that exists on the topic. :-)

I know for sure you can find one in this book written by the granddaughter of Atherton's widow.

Re: Black squirrel

When I was in high school, in Bronxville, NY, back in the 50s, there was a large population of black squirrels there. Never thought much about the cause, but IIRC about every third squirrel I saw was black.

Re: J K Fisher rods

I used several of their blanks "back in the day." A few made pretty decent rods, but some were useful only in the garden.

Re: Leader material --- new topic

Re "Loop-to-Loop" connections. I did this for a while, but I got frustrated with the "smallness" of the connection in light tippets and the corresponding difficulty in making tippet changes. I switched to tying the tippet to the main leader using a surgeon's loop in the main body and clinch knotting...

Re: Leader material --- new topic

Al McClane believed the longer the tippet, the more stress it will stand fighting a fish because of stretch. I have no basis to dispute this. My own tippets start life at around 4.5' (at the end of a 12' base leader) and get replaced when they are down to somewhere around 3.5 to 4' My standard tippe...
