Re: First trout on a fly, where and when, do you remember?

I was a late-comer to flyfishing. Grew up fishing for pike and bass and trout/salmon when they stocked them in Lake Ontario but never even thought about fly fishing until a few years ago. My bad  1st trout on a fly was 4 years ago, in October, at Junction Pool, on a #12 Stimulator. My buddy and...

Re: Streamers - Hook to use?

thanks for the replies and suggestions on both hooks AND patterns. I guess I picked the patterns listed in my original post as they seemed to be popular and talked about on many boards and suggested as "good" patterns to use. I'm sure there are other patterns out there that work better but hey, I ha...

Streamers - Hook to use?

Hello - I've never been much of a streamer fisherman. However every couple years I want to try something different and I'd like to build up a supply of streamers. As of now a couple, of basic patterns, Black-nose Dace, White Marabou, maybe one or 2 others. Just something to add to the arsenal of fli...

Re: I caught the one that got away

It's sorta like one of those odd double-plays in baseball - the ones that seem all out of order. Catch and release ... and net. not quite the way it's planned but a successful outcome just the same.

Very nice fish!!

Re: On snobbishness

no, I've never run into a snob ... I don't associate with "those people!!!" Either do I --- knowingly "associate with those people "... but the question was, "run into "... :) I was trying to be a smart-a$$ with my post - sort of a reverse snob approach to dealing with snobs ... probably did...

Re: Please be kind, I have yet to fish the Catskill waters!

I'm probably not one to "offer advice" as I'm a relative newbie to fishing the Catskills. I don't live too near them so I don't get down there near enough. But I'll offer a few pointers. First, if you're talking about fishing this time of year I wouldn't even consider the freestone streams. The Will...

Re: Cold-Water Tour

Hey Mike -

Did ya ever get over to Oatka while you were around Spring Creek? Was curious what the water temp was?

Re: Cold-Water Tour

I have to agree about Spring Creek - I swear those fish turn on their sides and wave their fins at ya as if to say "hello but don't waste your time!!"

So Mike - how did ya do at Spring Creek and the Oatka? Curious what the water temps were on the Oatka?
