Re: furled leaders ?

If your leader is made out of mono or flouro I'd use a loop-to-loop. If your leader was furled using thread i.e. uni 6/0 you might want to consider getting some of those small tippet rings and putting one on. I'd be concerned with your tippet material cutting through the thread loop. A furled leader...

Re: I think it's time to start

I'm sure the pro's here will chime in but here's the video I mentioned showing a simplified version of making a bamboo rod and applying the finish with a turkey baster. And I was right - Thomas and Thomas is the manufacturer. You'll see their name engraved on the reel seat as well as on a tag at the...

I think it's time to start

A year or so ago I decided I wanted to "play around" with bamboo but couldn't justify the expense so I thought I'd pick up an old rod off Ebay that I could strip down, refinish, wrap, etc. So with some excellent advice from CJ and others I picked up an old South Bend rod that I ended up reducing dow...

Re: Light Cahill Quill

I love how the segmentation on the body just sort of runs into the segmentation on the tail. Gives the effect that the body goes on and on.

Very nice!

Fly Landing Upgright - Tail up

ok, this is probably a dumb question but I'm curious - I've read that when tying Catskill dries if you get the wings too far forward the fly may have a tendency to tip upright when landing on the water with the tail pointing straight up. I was on a local stream Sunday and had a hatch of QG's coming ...

Pattern Database - Picture Size

I checked out the test post of the Conover in the pattern database. Is there a reason the picture has to scroll? Is there a setting somewhere to change that or is it based on the size of the picture? If I go into the dry fly section and view a picture I get the whole picture with no scrolling. I'm j...

Re: Sunglasses

well this was surprising - I figured I'd get numerous recommendations on a bunch of different brands/lens colors but from the replies so far it's pretty cut-n-dried. Now that everyone has replied I can report that I found the damn glasses. In a pouch in my fishing bag no less. Ahhhh, another senior ...

Sunglasses

Hi all - I seem to have lost my sunglasses over the winter so I need to pick up a pair. I've seen prices all over the spectrum but I feel I don't have to spend an arm and a leg for polarized glasses. So I'm looking for some suggestions on a brand that won't break the bank. I'm also wondering what co...

Re: How many turns do you use in a whip finish???

FWIW I guess I'm in the "I own a whip finish tool but never use it" club myself. 3-4 1/2 hitches using the butt end of my bodkin and putting the indentation over the hook eye.

Re: The "Gordon"

Well we'd at least get first choice!!!

Quick funny story - Chris bought Mike's book when we were at Flyfest and had Mike sign it. What he didn't realize was Mike had already signed the book when they were put in the museum for sale so he's got 2 autographs.
