Re: Vises...What do you tye with?

I have to echo Jim Slattery's post (except for the length of time) - started with a Thompson A at the FIRST flyfest held in Roscoe and upgraded to a HMH Standard about a year later. Never tied on a "true rotary" so I can't comment on that. I do like the ability to turn the fly at different angles wi...

Collins Tailing Hackle

It's GREAT to see this new forum setup as it's timely for a question I have. I posted this over on the CF site but as many of you guys use Collins hackle and tailing I figure I might as well ask here as well ... A few years ago when I first got into tying I purchased some packs of tailing hackle fro...

Re: Darbee Stonefly

A timely post - I'm looking for some Stonefly patterns - might as well add this to my list. If it was good enough for Darbee .... I do have one question - I notice many recipes are tying Stoneflies all the way down to 6's (and bigger) on 4xl and 6xl hooks and CJ's here are on a #10 3xl. I know the r...

Re: Bulldogs, Attn: Nik

I recently had some minor surgery on my neck. While waiting for the Dr to come in I was looking around and saw all these packages of sterilized forceps, scissors and other assorted goodies. As I got talking to the Dr she said her dad was a surgeon and flyfisherman and yes, many of the tools found th...

Re: Green Goblin

Man that hook DOES look nasty! Definitely would find itself in my thumb at some point.

I could've used this a few weeks ago on the Willow - was able to catch fish on just about any fly I threw at them ... as long as it was GREEN!

Nice tie Mark.

Re: Westville Wizard

Nice looking fly. It looks especially nice in that tree branch. Now I know what mine will look like if I decide to tie one up!

Re: Turners Green

Janne, Yes, Cross style. And the hackles [2] are from Indian necks. You can see the 2 clipped stubs poking up at the eye   . This camera shows all the defects! CJ Hey CJ another question for ya on how you finished off the hackle wrap "with the stubs poking out". Do you strip off the hack...

Rod Care - Fighting a fish, after the day is done, etc.

OK so I picked up a "cheap" bamboo fly rod a couple months ago and have fished it a few times (would've liked to fish it more but this has been a crazy spring/summer). Being new to this 'boo "thang" I'm looking for some advice how to handle/treat a 'boo rod that may be different than graphite. I've ...
