Re: Put a smile on a childs face

Tim--

It's called It's All About Fly Fishing, by Nicole Seymour (now Nicole March--she just got married). It's really well done, with things to engage kids besides coloring inside (or outside) the lines. And the cutest cartoon bugs you ever saw.

Re: The Opener is coming up!

Rick-- Yet another affliction of geezerhood. I've had one in each eye, and it is indeed a trial--not just the treatment, either, which can be pretty freaky to contemplate, let alone experience, but the especially the recovery period. They do heal, though, and life eventually returns to normal. Hang ...

Re: spinning reel made for flyline

There's a guy who fishes the surf in Monterey Bay, in California, who devised a similar setup. Sometimes stripers in the surf are over 100 feet away, and conventional-tackle guys can cast that far. So can he, with a Spey rod and shooting-head/running line rig, but managing 100 feet of thin mono runn...

Re: Sage 389LL...finest dry fly rod ever?

I've got a 490LL that I love. It doesn't have the reputation of the 389LL, but it's a sweet rod with surprising power. I used to fish the Deschutes with it, and the river's redsides are hot fish.

Re: Greetings from the Yuba River, CA

Notice the green hills in the second picture. My first year at Berkeley, I made the mistake of trying to teach a Wallace Stevens poem in a freshman class, and it was not going well. In desperation, I said, "Well, in this stanza, everything is brown, and then in the next stanza, everything is green. ...

Ed--

Here's the photo of the Dorato-tied DHE that I published in the Gazette--it's been cropped and reduced in size, but also breathed on with the rudimentary photo-editing program I use to correct the lighting and (I hope) bring out the colors a bit better.
