Re: Call to Arms

I think it would be a good idea for all of us to read-up on this issue. I plan to spend some time this weekend in the evening doing so. Off-the-cuff my first reaction is that the States would totally screw this up because of under-the-table "incentives"and back-door deals. On the other hand, the Fed...

Re: Call to Arms

That blog article is a political and truculent rant on a very real issue that all of us should be paying attention to. What is at stake is the re-classification of Federally-owned public lands that are accessible to all Americans. The issue is that the Fed may release to State-ownership some of thos...

Re: Fly tying travel bag

Ed, If you want to go "on the cheap" then those zipper plastic bags Ted spoke of work pretty darn well. If you want a cooler solution then take a look at some of the new generation fly tying bags by Cabelas, Fishpond, etc. Personally I use a dedicated fly tying box I got off of eBay used many years ...

Re: Overtons wonder wax

St. Froid,

I have no idea. That would be a question for Glen Overton. LOL. I think the recipe for Coca Cola is as closely guarded as Wonder Wax. Lot's of speculation and conjecture but no tangible facts.

Re: Overtons wonder wax

Just received my new Wonder Wax. In a head-to-head "finger" test, here is my first impressions: Tack: the new stuff doesn't have the same amount of "tack" that the old stuff has in the tube. The new stuff has less tack in the tube. This became more pronounced when I rubbed a sample of each on a piec...

Re: Overtons wonder wax

It is common knowledge, among those that know, that the two-headed horned fly fishing God Duocornucaput Fontinalis (also known as BEAMOC) came down riding on a blue Unicorn from the upper reaches of the Beaverkill and touched Glen Overton on the shoulder with the very first bamboo fly rod ever made ...

Re: Overtons wonder wax

I bought a tube based on what I read on Clark's and here. It sounds legit but I'd still like to see some concrete evidence that this is the same formula with Overton's "blessing" so to speak. If it performs the same does that make any difference. For those who don't know the history of this stuff, n...

Re: Overtons wonder wax

Gene, Plus $8 bucks shipping! Considering there is no contact information on their site, no provenance or other products for sale or anything tangible to link them to Glen Overton, this sounds....fishy. And yes, the color is clear white not amber and it looks a lot like Stickum candle holder wax......

Re: Leader material --- new topic

Nylon mono is old technology that hasn't changed and neither has the shelf life of mono tippet. I don't fish nearly as much as most of you so I throw a spool away after one year. I write the date I bought it with a Sharpie so I know. Sunlight, as stated also shortens the life of tippet. However, not...

Re: Q: How to Thin Spar Varnish

Ahh, a man who still uses the real thing on flies! Love it! "Small tube" or tub? Never have seen spar come in a tube. Yeah, lacquer thinner will often mess up spar varnish. For cleaning up it's ok, but pretty harsh. I don't use it for that reason. Opinions vary but I have always used pure gum spirit...
