Re: Night Flies

Those flies look supremely cool CJ :) Have you tried fishing them yet? I guess it's a time-proven design, but myself I can't help thinking about that 1962-song by Sam Cooke when I look at them ;)

Re: The dry flies of John Atherton

Here is number 7, the ugly sister to the famous 1-6. This one was a little easier for me to get my head around, with a black tying silk body that required no blending of dubbing, no wondering what shade, or as Mike would say, no pinches of anything. Tyed on a 94836 size 18 hook. Atherton tyed it in...

Re: The dry flies of John Atherton

Its great isn't it? We try to tye flies to look like they did, and they tried to vary them  I would be more interested to see the old dubbing blends for the flies than an actual fly. I for the most part go by the book description and Mike's examples when making my own, but when he describes so...

Re: The dry flies of John Atherton

David, that is gorgeous man  Impressionism, it has me staying up nights... Looking at the paintings in the book, the fly looks pink. I was messing around with the dubbings, and it seems when you wet the body, the natural and red seal along with gray muskrat and hares ear could give off a pin...

Re: The dry flies of John Atherton

You inspire me CJ, yet a lovely fly that #2 of yours :) I had a go at the Atherton #4, he body looks quite red in the picture but is a bit more grayish pink in real life, that red seal sort of takes over when you go in close.. That's the problem with impressionism , you can't look to close, then it ...

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. I can't wait to try this one out, I've had quite a bit of success with white streamers in the past and this pattern sure looks like a winner :)

Bumblepubby

I've been looking at all these beautiful classic streamers you guys are producing for a while and felt the need to add a few to my box. To start off I tied me up a Bumblepuppy to one of CJ's recipes. The hook is a Mustad 3665A #6.. /David S. http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m543/Trutta_67/Classic...

Re: John McDonald's article in May 1946 Fortune Magazine

David, If you're interested in Atherton ---you're going to want to get "the new book" when it's released (not trying to sell you something....). -An entire Atherton Chapter is there among the 40 chapters; you''ll get to see some original Jack Atherton-tied flies in that chapter. And lot's of text, ...

John McDonald's article in May 1946 Fortune Magazine

I've been on the lookout for John McDonald's article on fly-fishing from the May 1946 issue of Fortune Magazine for some time, today I finally found it. It was right there all the time on the Internet ;) Perhaps there are more people that are interested in this: http://www.fulltable.com/vts/aoi/a/at...
