Re: Capra hair

I was just thinking the same thing Narco was thinking: hit up a goat farmer. Whenever I need something like Tup's wool, it's the farmers who have come through. https://www.marblecreekacres.com/product/27264/goat-pelt--white-wblue-dorsal-stripe Must be a lot of old goats out there and one hide can ti...

Re: Capra hair

Gibbs striper fly? Like this one (picked off the internet)? https://i.postimg.cc/Pxh7SxSc/Screen-Shot-2021-03-03-at-12-19-06-PM.png 3" is long goat. This thread describes how the original goat was changed to bucktail, and this would maybe explain the length.stiffness/waviness that we see in this par...

Re: Capra hair

Ted, what exactly are you tying--and how long is the hair you are looking for? It's hard to find vintage goat--and the hair of it isn't that long, maybe one inch? One and a half? Here's some from Art Dedini's shop, probably in the 1960s-- https://i.postimg.cc/Xvw6Dh9D/Dedini-Goat-e-copy.jpg The cont...

Re: So what are you tying now?

Thanks, guys.

Bill, it's not actually my desk you're seeing here--it's the family dining table. We eat at the other end, lol--. I have a very nice and understanding wife.

Re: So what are you tying now?

I'm finally getting in a groove assembling the Carrie Stevens wingsets and hooksets I prepared last spring--to replace those stolen a couple of years ago. I've finished about 100 so far, and have maybe 60 or 70 to go before I turn to replacing the tying notes that were also stolen. https://i.postimg...

Re: Light Cahill & Quill Gordon

Jay, those are nicely done--great proportions. Here's a couple of Gordons with vintage proportions, and with the wings centered, not split:

Do these count?

No. Christmas is all over, we will discuss Christmas tree ornaments next December--this is a thread for fishing flies.

Re: Flies tied by the Dettes

Is that period good because of certain hatches? Or even lack of crowd on the water! :) Hatches: Green drakes, sulphurs, isos, and stone flies--it's party time for the fish. It can get crowded at some pools, of course, but the fish are there, the weather and water levels will affect things--you shou...
