Rip Van Winkle's Catskills

Post by Eperous » Sun Aug 05, 2018 5:36 pm

This is especially for folks who never quite travelled east of Roscoe/Livingston Manor to Rip Van Winkle's Catskills...

I got involved Saturday, thus couldn't find my way west to Summerfest, a real bummer! :( Thus after all was said and done, my wife and I had dinner at the Rip Van Winkle Microbrewery on NY 32... great beer, good bar food, and reasonably priced... afterwards we wound our way home past North/South Lake and Flick's Schoharie Creek...

Along the way we stopped at a few waterfalls, fully charged due to recent heavy rainfall... If you never read Nick Lyons' Fishing Stories, "First Trout, First Lie", you're missing out...

Here's Bastion Falls, viewed from NY 23A...

Here's Kaaterskill Falls, the highest two-tier NYS waterfalls...

And, here's the fabled Kaaterskill Clove on an early August eve....

I was there earlier this summer. Just beautiful. It was clear why Thomas Cole chose these vistas to paint.
