I grew up nail-knotting; however, I tried a Moser's Minicon braided loop connector a number of years ago and I'm sold on them. They work better than any other braided loop that I have found. They are sure convenient and don't hinge.

Matt, that’s a neat idea , how hard is it to feed the butt end thru the fly line though?
Here's how I do it.

1. Cut end of butt section at an angle to create a point.
2. Insert needle into the end of fly line and out about1/2" up. Leave the needle in for 5-10 minutes.
3. Hold the line in your thumb and index finger and carefully slide it off the needle being careful to not squeeze it or let it unbend where the exit hole is.
4. Insert the pointed end of the butt section in the end of the line and out the exit hole.
5. Tie nail knot around the line and carefully tighten it so that the first wrap or two is just past the hole toward the end of the line and the other wraps are above it.

I then tie a blood knot to the butt end of my leader so I have a direct connection throughout the line leader connection.
