Report: Jan 1. 2014 Fishing on Battenkill

Post by mikevalla »

The annual New Years Day fishing gathering went well. One buddy did the right thing---and showed up with cane, throwing loops with a Royal Wulff on his tippet. Norman (Squish) headed upstream, and dipped a line---good attempt. But no cigar. Until we met back at the "Vallahalla" Cabin named by Wally who showed up but didn't fish.

Wally brought a large selection of his favorite smokes---and a great cake his wife made for the occasion.Norman unabashedly selected, then promptly got his smokin'. Norman finally tapped into the bottle of Henry McKenna that was sitting on the shelf for months.

Gary stole the show; he cooked up a batch of "Low Country Boil"--all kinds of delights.

Such beautiful fresh clean air on the river...Maybe not so much so in the cabin. ;) Looks like a great time and shows bamboo is not just for the fair weather days.

Notice the ice globs in the river. It was much like fishing in a Slush Puppy. Water, right at 32, air 16!
