Free signed and personlized book: trivia!

Post by mikevalla »

I'm usually asked by a TU or other group to contribute a signed book, as part of an annual fundraiser held around the opening day of NYS Trout Season (April 1). No request came my way this year, so I thought I'd give away a book, anyway here in SGM, in celebration of Opening Day. (If you don't want or need a book----play along anyway! :)

If you have an interest in receiving a signed and personalized copy of Tying Catskill-Style Dry Flies (including domestic mail delivery) All you have to do is answer the following correctly:

The First Person who correctly answers these:

>Identify this well known Catskill River Pool and the Stream. It was a favorite of many well-known anglers

>What famous author
has often been associated with this pool?

>Identify one of the author's books

Don't know, but I love your book. I have been tying nothing but classic Catskill dry flies for dry fly fishing since I got it. There is just something cool about using a classic Catskill dry fly as opposed to one of the more modern patterns and they work.

My guess is: Beaverkill River, Ferdon's Pool. Alfred Miller aka "Sparse Grey Hackle" Fishless days, Angling Nights. What else could it be on this forum?

And the answers are.... and the winner is:

>Big Bend Pool, Esopus Creek
>Arnold Gingrich----The Well Tempered Angler and other great writings

Congrats to our Epeorus, aka "Esopus Ed." Ed knows and loves that stream---every rock, run, riffle and pool. I have fond thoughts of the day I followed Ed with my camera as he fished that pool and others on his beloved Esopus Creek.

>Send me a PM, Ed,with your Addy and let me know if you want the book just signed, or signed and personalized. Keep for yourself, give to a friend, or set it aside for a TU raffle. The choice is yours!

Mike thanks... since I already have a personalized copy of your superb book, let's donate this one to my TU chapter, for use at it's annual Conservation Dinner on April 8th... I'll PM you my address, but please inscribe your book as follows, "For the Ashokan-Pepacton Watershed Chapter of Trout Unlimited", sign it, and date it "April, 8th, 2017"...

Thanks much for supporting us and what we try to do for local trout resources... :) and next time, ask a harder question... ;)

I'm sure this will bring in a tidy profit for us and local trout fisheries, the Esopus among them... :D

Thank you Mike!

Ed
