Labor Day and brook trout fishing

Post by Eperous »

As Labor Day approaches I find the evenings in these mountains cooling down, with a change of season upon us... I even witnessed a few homes using their woodstoves already, with smoke curling up into dry, comfortable, blue skies above... this is also the time of year when I find my summer dry fly fishing for Catskill headwater stream brook trout starting to slow down, as rivers cool...

I got out for a bit late yesterday, and the weather was perfect... but, I struggled a bit until I fished a #16 Elk Hair Stone, then mouths of hungry brookies opened...

Enjoy Labor Day folks, and safe driving among the "crazies" out there on our highways this holiday weekend... ;)

Interesting take on Brook Trout fishing at this date. I went up in the mountains yesterday to some of my usual Brookie spots and nada. I chalked it up to slightly lower water and easier spooked fish. Perhaps I should have have been more persistent with other patterns. Thanks for the post.
