OK, that all makes sense now--'68 was a hell of a year, whether you were in Paris or SF or the Catskills....

Hi Mike, it's funny you started with a Noll kit in 1967. I started with the Noll kit in 1964. My grandfather bought it for me when he saw I was trying to tie flies "free form" The Noll guide got me started tying actual patterns. Are you required to use the cheesy sheet metal vise that came with the kit to belong? Walt

We focus solely on pre-1969 Catskill patterns, or patterns popular in Catskills during that time

Sounds great--but I am curious, why 1969? What significance does this particular year have in distinguishing between 'before' and 'after?'

I would have guessed 1969 cause that's the year Outdoor Life--- in March & April--- published Cecil Heacox's classic articles on the "Catskill Charmed Circle"... :D

... and as for more information on FaceBook, I guess that leaves me out as I don't do FaceBook, Twitter, Tweets, or any of that stuff... if my trusty pigeon can't handle the communication, nothings gets said... :o

I started with mine in 1961; a Christmas present for a 13 year-old... I seem to recall my parents paid $4.99 for the kit, which I still have and several of the items it contained...

... and still learning how to properly tie all these years later... :|

Never got the Noll kit but my dad had the Family Circle Guide from the 1950's. Thankfully, that was my initiation into the world of literature...those paintings by Raymond Camp had wonderful proportions that have been engraved into my conscience. He bought a few things from Herter's but the majority of stuff came from Reed's.

Yes, Ed

"1969" also had to do with The Charmed Circle two part article--March and April 1969. Thanks!
