Emerger...1979

Post by catskilljohn » Mon Jul 27, 2009 10:55 pm

Didn't know if I should put this in the dry, wet or nymph section

I found this pattern in an old F.F. magazine, a story by Art Lee on Green Drakes. Great stuff, all Catskill related. This is called the "high wing emerger", I didn't have a dressing from the magazine, and it appeared the original had mottled "thin-skin" for the back. I used wd ;)
hook, Mustad 10X streamer, #12
tail, wd fibers
body, tan fox, pheasant aftershaft feather pulled over, wood duck over that.
rib, gold wire
thorax, tan fox, loosely dubbed
wingcase, ring neck pheasant tail
wing, wood duck

The aftershaft feather would give this fly a great breathing appearance. CJ

ps...Mike, this is that fly we were talking about the other day!
"Gentlemen,remove your hats,this is it"
"This is where the trout was invented?"
"Oh he existed in a crude, primitive form in Waltons England"
"But this is where they painted spots on him and taught him to swim"
