Trying to get this fly worked out. I tied the pictured fly a couple of days ago and took it out for a ride. I ran it through some deep holes with success but I need to work on getting my proportions down a little better. I don't know what the overall sentiment is on this board regarding trailing/stinger hooks but I only use barbless swing hooks on flies like this.
I fished it on a (not so) secret Great Lakes trib and it did pretty good. I also fished it on some trout streams in the North East this past winter and it did a good job. I tied a bunch of these just like in the picture and they are not weighted, tied on an OPST shank with Senyo wire, and trailing a barbless OPST swing hook. I was fishing a pretty heavy sink tip w/ a short leader (straight 10# fluorocarbon, about 5 feet). These are tied on the above mentioned hardware with the main body being made of Petitjean synthetic polar bear fiber (and I told Eperous that I did not own any exotic tying material), smolt blue crystal flash, peacock herle, and grizzly hackle. The newer flies are more refined with UV epoxy heads and some have weighted bodies. I have a habit now of trying to tie my streamers as sparse as possible with enough triggers built in to do the job.
