John, that KILLS!!!!! It's frickin' exqusite. REALLY an ass kickin' tye. Although, i have just one suggestion.....(and of course, each to hi own).....imho, i think it would loook even better if the gut were attached to the sides of the hooks and not the bottom. It would give it a more streamlinned look, without that drop off look. Also makes for an easier/nicer head and a better platform for mounting wings. Try it sometime.....you'll like it, BET! Great pic btw..... See you soon.

Hairwing Salmon flies are mentioned as early as 1770 in the UK however they were certainly developed and widely used in North America. The Black Bass was a NA specie so the fly development was pure North American.
John's fly is a traditional "chubb" fly and the gut belongs on bottom.

I dont have the actual dressing for this fly, but I can tell you what I used in my interpretation.

tip: oval gold tinsel
tag: yellow ostrich herl
tail: orange hackle fibers
body: gold floss rear, front red/orange mixed seals fur
rib: oval gold tinsel
hackle: orange
wing:2 red rooster hackles, outside of that 2 pairs of Satyr Tragopan staggered.
The hook is an old blind eye Mustad, 1/0.
