Jones's Guide to Norway

Post by catskilljohn »

A handful of Tolfrey patterns...I posted two of these last weekend, here are a few more...the small ones are on Williams Limerick blind eyes, listed as size #1, but more like a modern #6.

Just curious, CJ -- what % of fully-dressed salmon fly patterns call for golden pheasant crest at one location or another? It looks as though all of these have it someplace.

Almost all of them do. There are some obscure patterns that use toucan, parrot, teal, etc for tails, but most of those still use the crests for toppings, and quite a few that don't use toppings but have crests for tails! George Kelson stated that the Golden Pheasant was the most important bird to salmon fly tiers, and your assessment proves his statement. Fortunately they are easy to find, and fairly cheap considering how many you get on a head. CJ
