I recently obtained some materials from a west coast steelheader and among the hooks were these two: Mustad 3408s on the left, and Mustad 3123s on the right, both size 6:

What in interesting to me is how the tier had labeled the hooks according to the rivers for which the hook was used. I think this is the first time I have seen something like this.

Theroe, we are still waiting for those hook charts....hint, hint.

Some new hooks--older Turralls, of which I have seen surprisingly few--a nicely proportioned UK-made hook:

Theroe--where's your new big hook chart? I especially want to see the Bergmans!

Every time I go ahead and get started on hook chart, this happens:
MORE new (old) hooks!

Wife: “ why don’t you just take your clothes off?”

OK, Theroe. 35,000. Supposing you tie at a leisurely pace of a dozen flies a day, those hooks will only last you eight years and three months. Any sensible hoarder will tell you 35,000 is not nearly enough--ten times that, maybe, which will take you 80 years to tie your way through--and guarantee you you will die tying. Or trying.

There are worse ways to die.

So--everyone, send spare hooks to Theroe. He still needs 315,000 more to reach his goal.

If you have any Bergmans, send those to John. He's really a nice guy. Very modest. He roots for the Packers, but what else can you root for in Wisconsin? PBR?

so ..... last night, I attended a Christmas party in Manhattan: had a few drinks, a nice Porterhouse at Keen's Steakhouse....I was feeling good, so I thought WHYNOT?? SO, I swung by the ho' house on the way home from work.... >:o<
>>>> h o l d on...... before you think that YOU logged on to the wrong message board, I meant HOOK HOUSE - that's my friends warehouse, THE repository of ALL things MUSTAD..
>>> I wont keep any of you in suspense, reading my ramblings longer than you have to: I brought home 52,000 new pals ( I thought we counted thirty two boxes of 1000 each, but no)...

biggest issue??
how to "smuggle" the equivalent of a case of beer up the steps, through the living room, and down into the basement (heaven as I call it), past the wife..... that's a story for another day
But suffice to say, said box is still on the front seat of my truck!

Pictures later!

Oh My Gawd. I really don't know what to say--besides the fact you can't count?--

We will want a succinct summary and details of the hoard--hook numbers and styles and pictures too. Also, we want a picture of the look on your wife's face when she finds out.

Sheesh. I thought I had it bad. You're going to have to tell us a little about that warehouse too, you know?

For my part, not many new hooks but I did find this nice homemade cherry hook box someone from Pennsylvania had made--each of the top drawers is just the right height for hook boxes--and one drawer had custom pockets made for popular sizes:

Dana is going to need something MUCH bigger for his stash, I dare say.

Believe it or not--eBay....if you look for vintage wood machinist chests the search algorithm will bring up other related chests...and that's how I found this one--dumb algorithm luck. Your hooks would look happy in one of the old Jennings Chestnut or walnut chests they are pricey but beautiful.

You might need something a lot bigger though like a highboy china chest....
