Evening..
Making some flies for a Catskill dry Swap at a Swedish forum. We are having a ball talking about everything from wingmounting to what books to read. 3 or 4 of the 10 guys have ordered books, Valla´s, Cross´s etc, Wooduck all over the forum and discusions about differences between 94840 and R50, a really good swap and the guys are doing great.
Well anyway, the fly I choose was "The Catskill" that I found among the effective Patterns from Cross´s book. Never tied it before, I really liked the look of it. The recepie called for light brown, didn´t have that so I tried the Ginger I had... Do I need to get a Light Brown or does this work?
That's a beauty man! Ginger/light brown? Makes no difference to me on a pattern like this, you made it look real nice!

This is a pattern I find quite striking. Second only to the Conover this is a favorite of mine. I have a old version around here that has a gold tinsel tag and maybe even a gold rib plus bronze mallard for the tail.
I always imagined this had to be a wet fly adapted to a dry. As a wet it seems all too perfect for brook trout. In large sizes tied as a wet it is a great night fly. As a dry I rarely fish it. When I do it is in pocket water attractor fishing or with a dry dropper rig.

Second guy from the swap to pop in for a visit here.
Choose the barber pole as my fly as its not very common and I believe it to be a reasonably good pattern to start my journey into the catskill style of tying.
Let us just say that the results have been varying so far, but with some practice im hoping i can do Niklas, the rest of the guys and the pattern justice.
