How about a Sparse Grey Matter project?

Post by Niklas Dahlin » Sun May 02, 2010 10:20 am

I have been thinking for a while about gathering a bunch of compadres with the Catskill dries close to their hearts... and there are a couple of those here lurking around at this place. :D .

I´m thinking for a starter that we should do a frame with a theme from Reuben Cross´s "The complete fly tier". To be more precise I wan´t us to make a frame with the patterns from the chapter "effective patterns".

The patterns are:
1.Light Cahill - CJ
2.Dark Cahill - Greyfox
3.Ken Lockwood -Niklas Dahlin
4.Honey Dun - Ronbo
5.Blue Honey Dun - Ronbo
6.Rainbow Special - Ronbo
7.Cross Special - CJ
8.Gordon Quill - CJ
9.Betsy Cross - Zazzer
10.Royal Coachman - Jan "The Viking" Edman
11.Whirling Dun - "Zazzer"
12.Light Queen
13.Catskill -Joe Fox
14.Ginger Quill - Niklas Dahlin
15.Light Quill Cahill - Jimmy "Fishamidge"
16.Lead-Wing Coachman - Ted Patlen

This is not an ordinary swap, this is more of a project for charity. Every participant ties three of each chosen pattern, I will after recieving all the flies frame them and send two frames to the Catskill museum, one for display and another to be auctioned at a suitable event chosen by Jim Krull. The third and last frame will be given to a person chosen by our members by poll.

The flies shall be tied on #12 Mustad 94840. No substitute materials if possible. Also wan´t us to tie as close to "Rube cross" style as possible, clean space behind eye etc. Maybe Mr Valla can give us a hint. Flies ready to sent to me within the end of June. If there will be a problem of filling the spaces we can consider tying more than one pattern each, but this is a member event so I would prefer it to be filled with 16 participants. We can use this thread to post pics on our work as it´s gets along, for feedback etc.

What do you think mates... anybody intrested?

PS...I count on that our Moderators will attend..

Anything for charity, I'll tie a Dark Cahill if it's ok.

Nik

I'm already tying a "Charity Set" for the Catskill Museum (Like last year, what I'm doing is tying a set of 6 Classics and, through my own expense, I'm having them professionally framed in a nice shadow box, like I did last year. These are auctioned at the annual Hall of Fame dinner, hosted by the Catskill fly Fishing Center and Museum.

I've also tied flies, during the last couple of months, and given them to various Conservation groups (like Trout Unlimited), for their annual fund raising banquets.

I'm sort of all done for the year, myself, if you know what I mean, for charity tying. But you have a good idea and I'm sure others will particpate.

Great CJ... Thank´s mate...

Would love to see some more guys entering will wait another week for some more guys to join... Then we can split up the rest of the patterns. I have already found a really nice frame to put the treasures in. Do anyone have a drawed picture on file of Cross, Lew beach?
